RTC Pathway 2020/21
03 June 2020
Over the past 4 months we have used the time in lock down to review our current pathway and structure. Following a review with staff, parents and players it was evident that changes were required to improve the pathway and opportunity available to players.
Therefore, for 2020/21 there will be a new structure in place at the RTC with the aim of providing a clearer pathway and opportunities for players to progress to the next level (whatever that may be for them as an individual).
For the 2020/21 season, the RTC focus will support Oxford United's Academy to identify the top 20% of players within Oxfordshire. Once identified, the aim will be to work with these individuals to develop and aid their progression both on and off the pitch.
A key element of this will involve the RTC expanding their Junior Premier League Squad offering to the Under 12s and Under 14s as well as the existing Under 16 group. The aim behind the dual-banded age groups will be to challenge those high potential players and bridge the gap between the grassroots landscape and academy football.
For those involved in the training centres, the players will continue to train as they do now (once per week) as well as having additional fixtures during evenings and half-terms.
The above diagram above clearly demonstrates the pathway available to players in the programme and the aims behind the RTC. For those players who don't progress in to the RTC, players will be provided with additional opportunities with the Oxford United in the Community programmes and other partners.
